WHEN: April 18th-19th With readings starting at various times, kicking off at 1pm both Saturday & Sunday. WHERE: Bread & Salt 1955 Julian Ave, San Diego, California 92113 WHAT: San Diego's only entirely community-inspired production company Circle Circle dot dot is excited to launch the first-annual "Inspired Community" New Play Festival this April 18th & 19th at Bread & Salt in San Diego, CA. The company, who prides themselves on creating nothing but original performance pieces derived from true-life stories and communal conversations, is excited to open the doors of their process to local audiences with the hopes to gain feedback on 4 original scripts that the organization is considering for to produce in the future. They are launching this first-ever reading workshop festival to invite audiences to hear the new pieces that are in various states of 'completion' so they may have a say in the outcome of the work that is being produced by the company, and take part in a more 'hands-on' process of script creation. The festival will present readings from the 4 following new plays that have been carefully selected by the Circle company for development: Surrogacy Story By Krystal Taylor Cahill Directed by: Soroya Rowley A cohesive and heartfelt examination revolved around the controversies and complexities of becoming a surrogate mother. The Best Goodbye By Gill Sotu Directed by: Patrick Kelly Teenagers caught up in the early 90s rap and hip-hop music scene break into the home of a recently deceased recording artist while they navigate their tumultuous and violence-filled worlds. Why Are We Friends? By Tony Houck Directed by: Katherine Harroff It's time for a road trip with the boys! But friendships can be tested when booze, sass, unrequited love, and a Palm Springs vacation is involved. Wrenegades: An Ecological Adventure By Katherine Harroff & Michael Nieto Directed by: Patrick Kelly Circle Circle dot dot will present a special one-night reading of their final La Jolla Playhouse Theatre-in-Residence production. The piece shares the perspective of the incredible San Diego ecosystem through the eyes of two different main characters: a jaded biologist and a hopeful cactus wren. *Appropriate for ALL AUDIENCES*! The "Inspired Community" Reading Festival will present readings of each of these pieces in various stages of evolution. The first script featured in the reading (Surrogacy Story) is in the earliest stage of development, and will be presented around a table. As the day continues, the presentation of each script will evolve in style. Each reading features built-in time to collect audience feedback on the work, as well as a post-show Salon where audiences can discuss the work they just experienced and enjoy a silent auction, snacks and beer+wine. The festival schedule includes: April 18th: 1pm: Surrogacy Story (Table Reading) 2pm: Surrogacy Story post-show salon 3pm: The Best Goodbye (Music Stand Reading) 4:30pm: The Best Goodbye post-show salon 5pm: Palm Springs (Staged Reading) 6:30pm: Palm Springs post-show salon 8pm: Wrenegades (Staged Reading with the Playwrights). 9:30pm: Wrenegades talk-back.
